Our Garden and Fall Decor
When Ally was born, Ben knew that I would need a project of my own since I would be spending more time raising kids and less time helping with the farm. His idea was to grow potted mums. In 2017 we started growing potted mums. The first year we only sold about 2/3s of what we had. We reduced our numbers a little in 2018 but sold out before any bloomed. Since then we have continued in increase our inventory and still sell out sooner than we would like, thanks to the amazing support of our customers! 2020 we experimented with some mums in hanging baskets. In 2021 we added multicolored mum planters! In 2022 we increased our overall numbers again along with offering a few different color options.

Growing up, I always helped my mom with her flower gardens. But I did not fully appreciate the flowers until I dug up the peonies and irises that my mom had planted around our farm so I could take a piece of the farm with me to my new home. The peonies were especially sentimental as they originally came from my grandma’s house and had moved with my family several times. I dug up and planted some of the peony roots in my cut flower garden. Unfortunately, it takes several years for the peonies to grow enough to be used as cut flowers.

In 2014 as Ben and I were planning our wedding, I decided I wanted to grow some of our own flowers for the wedding. I grew zinnias, sunflowers and bachelor buttons. Ben’s mom did the bridal arrangements and several of our family members assembled the centerpieces. At this time, I was running a baking business from our home and never realized that flowers were going to become my real passion.
In 2017 my grandma passed away. She had been living in an assisted living facility and I would bring her flowers from my small flower garden. My grandma was always so excited to have flowers from my garden. Later in the year I seen where a farm was offering you pick flowers for their vegetable customers. I thought what an awesome way to honor my grandma by growing a cut flower garden that I could share with other people.
In 2018, Ben built me a small greenhouse. I started seeds in the greenhouse and planted them in the garden. The first year I just gave away all of the blooms. I found that I spent every minute that I could in my flower garden and enjoyed it so much. So the next year I expanded on my cut flowers and started offering them for sale. In 2020, I started selling bouquet subscriptions and more pre-made bouquets. I have never had any formal training, it is more of trail and error. But every bouquet I make is better and better.

We have been growing pumpkins for quite a few years. Starting in 2020 we added some specialty decorative pumpkins. Several more varieties of ornamental pumpkins and gourds were added for 2021. These are really fun for the kids. One of Julia’s favorite things to do while outside is rearrange the mini pumpkins and gourds that I have sorted! In 2023 we are increasing our ornamental pumpkin and gourd selection.

We hope you come visit us this summer and fall to see all we have to offer!
